Whether it is a birthday cake, an anniversary cake or a wedding cake one decoration that always work well are gumpaste roses. They really bring a cake to life, and can be made in any colour and in any size to match the theme of your cake. In this tutorial I show you step by step how to build your rose from the bud to adding each individual petal.
I’m so excited to share with you all how I make my gumpaste roses. Everyone has there own little tricks and techniques and I really hope you enjoy this video tutorial.
For the roses I’m using gumpaste (Squire floral paste). The reason for using gumpaste over fondant is gumpaste sets completely hard, meaning your roses will hold their shape. It also dries a lot quicker, which makes it a lot easier when adding all your rows of petals.
I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and will find it useful if you want to make sugar roses to add onto your cakes. Hi! I found you through your video tutorial. My first rose was beautiful until I dropped off the wire. My question is that I’ve noticed my gum paste cracks before I can ruffle the edges. I love in the US, so you have any suggestions for a quality gum paste? I used Wilton brand pre made.
Hi, your roses are beautiful!
I love the color of roses. Can you tell me how you accomplish these colors, what is the color or mix, please?
Thank you very much!
None of the links to the products above work. 🙁 Would love to have the products but without the working link OR more product information, its impossible to find them. Your rose work is beautiful!
Hi Angie, I am so sorry the link had stopped working. I have updated the link to a really similar set of rose petal cutters as I’m not sure they are still selling the exact ones I used.
