How to make a Flower Hoop for your cake

If any of you have been following my blog or Youtube channel for a while you will know I love creating gumpaste flowers. I love how you can start with just a piece of coloured gumpaste and make something that looks so real. Once you’ve made your flowers there are different ways to add them to your cakes, and one of the ways that is so popular at the moment is adding them to a hoop to give a kind of wreath effect. So I thought it would be really fun to show you how I add my flowers to a gold metal hoop for this weeks video tutorial…

Floral Flower hoop Cake

Ok so the first thing we have to talk about is the hoop. I’ve seen people use wooden embroidery hoops which look great, but I really like these metallic gold hoops. I went with a smaller 15cm (6 inch) hoop as it was sitting against the smaller 6 inch top tier of my two tier cake, but they come in so many different sizes. These are actually hoops which are used to create dream catchers and I got this one from Amazon. Now with it being just  a hoop it can be a little hard to attach it to your cake, so in the tutorial you will see how I used a piece of wire and a small pme flower pick to make it more stable.

Now for the flowers which I added to the hoop I created 2 small roses, a slightly larger David Austin rose, some rose leaves, some eucalyptus leaves and some flower buds. I loved how the flowers looked together, but the great thing about the flower hoops is you can use any flowers in any colours to match your theme.

I have put some links below if you want to see the rose and flower bud tutorials in a little more detail. I do show you in this weeks video how I made the leaves:
