With Mother’s Day just over a week away in the UK (Sunday 22nd March 2020) some of you have been asking about tutorials you could use, so I thought this week I would have a look back at some of my previous tutorials which would make the perfect cakes for Mother’s day. In the list I have tried to incorporate tutorials which are perfect for all abilities, so whether your new to cake decorating or are looking for something a little more challenging, I hope there is something for everyone.
Hat Box Buttercream Flower Bouquet Cake
I have to admit this is still one of my most favourite cakes. This was made as a tutorial for Mother’s Day last year over on the Cakes by Lynz YouTube channel and I just loved how pretty it looked. The main part of the cake is covered in fondant to create a hat box and there is a dome of cake on the top which is covered in beautiful buttercream flowers. In the video I show you how to create the hat box, how to pipe all the flowers and also how to make the stone board which just finishes off the cake.
So if you were thinking of getting your Mum a bouquet of flowers, why not make them out of cake!
Buttercream Rose Cake
This buttercream rose cake is perfect for a beginner or if you are just looking for a really simple pretty design this Mother’s day. I think this buttercream rose cake has a real Cath Kidston feel about it. It features mini buttercream swirls to create the appearance of roses which are then finished of with bright green leaves. You can also make this cake in any colour, but the finished result just looks so pretty.
Mini Rose Flower Cupcake
I think cupcakes really do make the perfect gift, so why not make each one look like its own little mini flower bouquet. These cupcakes have buttercream roses, little buttercream petals and an array of little flower buds. I love how pretty these cupcakes are and think they would be perfect for Mother’s day!
Butterfly Cake Tutorial
Whether you’re looking to create a cake full of butterflies or maybe you want to add a butterfly onto a cake covered in flowers, in this tutorial I show you how to make these pretty butterflies which look like they are fluttering around your cake and landing on the sides. So if you’re Mum is a lover of butterflies why not give them a go.
Vintage Tea Cup & Biscuit Cake
Does your Mum love a cup of tea? If so what about adding some tea and biscuits onto a cake for her. Everything on this cake is made from scratch, even the biscuits are made of fondant!! So whether you create this whole cake or maybe just use some of the elements on your own creation this is such a fun cake to create.
Buttercream Flower Fault Line Cake
Faultline cakes were the cake of 2019 and they are still so popular now. This fault line cake features buttercream flowers between the cracks making it look like the whole inside of your cake is bursting with flowers. I love how pretty this cake looks. In the tutorial I show you how to stack your cake to give you space to add the flowers and how to pipe all the buttercream roses, petals and flower buds, giving you a cake which is a real showstopper.
Russian Piping Tips Flower Cupcakes
I think flowers are definitely a popular choice for Mother’s day and if you’re looking to create beautiful flowers, the easiest and quickest way is definitely using some of the Russian piping tips. These are great as you just place them against your cake or cupcake, apply pressure to your piping bag and when you pull away you are left with the prettiest buttercream flowers. In this tutorial I look at 4 different styles and the different effects they create. So if you want to create a box of cupcakes bursting with little flowers these would be great.
Gumpaste Cosmos Flowers
This list has featured quite a few buttercream flower cakes, so if you’re looking for something a little more realistic why not create some gumpaste flowers to add to your cakes. Below is a tutorial to create these really stunning cosmos flowers which would look great added to your cakes. I also currently have 16 more gumpaste flower tutorials over on the Cakes by Lynz YouTube channel, so if you’re looking to create a cake with realistic flowers definitely check those out!
I really hope you will find this list of tutorials helpful if you’re looking to create a cake for Mother’s day or a cake for someone special.
