This includes everything from basic cake decorating techniques including fondant cakes, buttercream cakes and cupcakes to gumpaste flower tutorials, fun cake ideas, cake toppers and some showstopper cakes if you are looking for something a bit more advanced.
I really try to create something for everyone, so wherever you are in your cake journey, whether you’re at the start and are looking for a new hobby or just looking for some cake inspiration make sure you head over to the YouTube channel. Plus if there is anything you ever want to see just let me know in the comments below. I always love to hear your suggestions.
Below I have put a few of my favourite videos which you might like…
IF YOU’RE NEW TO CAKE DECORATING
Vanilla Cupcake Recipe
If you’re new to cake decorating the first place to start is with a great cake recipe. Here is my vanilla cupcake recipe (you will also find a vanilla cake recipe too!). This makes a really light fluffy sponge cake which you can then decorate exactly how you want! Plus the best thing about this recipe is that if you fancy a different flavour you only need to change the flavour of the liquid flavouring.
Cupcake Piping Techniques
I think piping the perfect buttercream swirl is probably the most satisfying thing to do, so if you want to learn how to hold the piping back, how to pipe the cupcakes or which piping tips give which effect, check out my piping techniques videos (You will also find more on the channel).
Buttercream Rose Cupcake Tutorial
If you’ve mastered the buttercream swirl what about advancing to some simple flower cupcakes. The roses are created with a mini buttercream rosette, surrounded by little flower buds and green leaves. These would make the perfect gift for a birthday or mothers day!
Buttercream Rose Cake Tutorial
Sometimes the prettiest cakes are the simplest. I love this rose inspired buttercream cake with a Cath Kidson vibe. This tutorial shows you how to cover the cake and how to pipe these pretty roses on the side.
SOMETHING TO TRY WITH THE KIDS
With so many of us currently in lockdown if you’re finding it hard to keep the kids entertained here are a few fun projects you could make together.
Unicorn Cupcakes Tutorial
Unicorns are such a popular theme, so why not give these cupcakes a try. I also show you how to make a little rainbow cupcake topper.
Unicorn Cakesicles Tutorial
Ok so you’ve given the cupcakes a go, why not try some matching cakesicles. Now cakesicles are my favourite, with a chocolate candy coating and a yummy cake and buttercream mix on the inside. Plus if you get hooked on creating cakesicles don’t forget to head over to the check out my other cakesicle tutorials.
Birthday Bear Cake Tutorial
Now this is one of my favourite cakes. It is quite simple in design which makes it perfect to create with kids but you end up with this cute birthday bear. You can also make it as big as you like. I used 6 inch cakes, but if you don’t need that much cake why not try making mini versions with a 4 inch cake.
Elephant Cake Topper Tutorial
I love making little cake toppers and if your kids are fans of elephants why not give this cute cake topper a try. I made him from fondant, but you can also make him from clay if you would prefer.
Giant Donut Cake Tutorial
There is nothing more fun than making a cake look like real food. So if you are a fan of donuts how about giving this giant donut cake a try…
BRING THE OUTSIDE INSIDE – GUMPASTE FLOWERS
One of my favourite things to make are gumpaste flowers. Currently there are over 16 different floral step by step tutorial and here are just a few of the ones you will find on my channel. If there is a flower you can’t find just let me know and I can add it to my list of ones to make for you.
Gumpaste Rose Tutorial
Roses are a great place to start if you have never made gumpaste flowers before and they look amazing on birthday or wedding cakes.
Gumpaste Sunflower Tutorial
With summer not far off how about creating a sunflower to add onto your cakes. These large flowers really do have the wow factor!
Gumpaste Cosmos Tutorial
Probably one of the prettiest flowers, these cosmos flowers can be made in any colour and just look so pretty on their own or added into a spray of flowers.
How to create a Floral Cake Hoop Tutorial
Ok so you know how to make the flowers but if you’re looking for ideas on how to add them to your cakes how about giving this floral hoop a try.
SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING
I love a little cake challenge, but it can sometimes feel a little daunting knowing where to start. In these tutorials I break it all down into the individual steps so you can see exactly how the cakes are made and how to put them together.
Illusion Cake – Anti- Gravity Cake Mixer Tutorial
This mixing bowl and electric whisk is all cake. One of my most favourite cakes I have made this cake has an anti-gravity structure inside which is made from things you can find at the DIY hardware store. Why not surprise someone with their own baking theme cake.
Bucket and Spade Cake Tutorial
Now nothing says summer fun like a bucket and spade. This cake was created using a 6 inch round cake and even the sand is edible.
Anti-Gravity Ice Lolly Cake Tutorial
If you’re a fan of the anti-gravity cake or want to give it a try this giant ice lolly cake is so much fun to make. Again the structure inside is made from things you can find at the DIY hardware store and I go through each step of the cake showing you exactly how to make it.
JUST FOR FUN
With over 100 tutorials for me to go through I just couldn’t miss these ones out…
Shoe Cake Topper Tutorial
If you’re looking for a fun topper for a ladies cake why not make her a little pair of shoes.
Tropical Flamingo Cake Tutorial
Flamingos are such a popular theme, especially combined with buttercream stripes and tropical flowers.
Moon Landing Space Rocket Cake Tutorial
This is something a little different to your normal 6 inch round cake. If you know a budding astronaut in this tutorial I show you how to cover a sphere cake to look like the moon and how to add this fun rocket to look like its landing is a cloud of smoke.
Watermelon Cake Tutorial
Perfect for a summer party or to bring our at a BBQ. Colour your cake inside and out to make it look just like a watermelon.
Ok so I know that’s a long list of my favourites but there really are so many to choose from and I really have enjoyed making them all. I really hope you will find this list of tutorials helpful and you also enjoy checking out the rest of the FREE tutorials over on the Cakes by Lynz YouTube channel. You are a star. I love your work. Talented indeed.
Thank you so much Chriesy, you are too kind. I am so glad you like the cakes.
Hi can I know how to make the gumpaste recipe which you are using for the gumpaste ribbon banner. Thank you.
Hi Tharuka, I actually always use pre-made gumpaste that I buy. The gumpaste that I used in this video was the floral paste by Squires Kitchen. Renshaw also do a range of modelling and gumpastes. Alternatively you can also add tylos powder into your fondant which will firm it up and make it dry solid. I really hope this helps.
