Recently I have been making some cute animal cake toppers, we have had an cute elephant and a lion. Well some of you have been asking for more of these and specifically a giraffe, so this week I am sharing with you how I made this cute giraffe, which would be perfect for a first birthday or baby shower cake . For the full tutorial just head to the bottom of this post!
I am really loving how the 3 characters look together and you can find the elephant and lion tutorials here.
The giraffe is made from mixing fondant with some gumpaste to allow it to dry firmer than fondant would on it’s own. He sits around 12cm in height, but you could make his neck a little longer if you wanted. Just make sure you let the body and head harden before putting them together, else the weight of the head can push onto the body making it wider at the bottom, loosing the height. I left mine for around 2 hours.
When making the giraffe he really started to come to life once I added the little horns / antlers onto the top of his head and also the little distinctive giraffe markings. Giraffe markings aren’t complete round so I added some lighter brown fondant onto the surface and pushed this down until it was flat.
I really hope you like the little giraffe topper and enjoy giving him a try. If there is another animal you want me to try just let me know in the comments. You’ll find the full video below showing step by step how to make him.
