Do you ever struggle to know what to get someone as a gift. What about giving them a cake! In this weeks video tutorial I show you how to make a cake that looks just like a present which has been wrapped in a cute gift box and finished off with a pretty bow on the top. This would be perfect, maybe as a birthday gift or with Christmas just around the corner. Click below to watch the tutorial.
The cake in this tutorial is a 5 inch square cake which is covered in milk chocolate ganache. In the tutorial I run through step by step how I covered my square cake in ganache, getting those sharp edges and how I went on to cover this in fondant to create the look of the gift box.
Square cakes can be tricky to cover as you have all the straight edges. I covered mine in one go and made sure that I started smoothing down the fondant along the top edge and down the sides before working on smoothing out the pleats. This meant that I wasn’t left with excess fondant on the corners. I could then use my paddle smoothers and flexi smoothers to go in and smooth down the fondant into a nice cube shape.

Adding the text – Plus 10% off Sweet Stamp
The cake was finished off with a pretty purple bow on the top and a little gift tag. I used the new Frosting letter set by sweetstamp for the lettering as this was the perfect size.
