Answering Your Cake Questions – Q&A Video!

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my privacy policy for more details

Earlier this week I put up a message on the Cakes by Lynz Instagram page, the Facebook page and on the YouTube community tab asking if any of you have any questions you would like me to answer. I have to say a massive thank you for all your questions, there have been so many amazing questions. I narrowed it down to 20 that covered everything from questions about me, questions about my baking journey and answering your cake decorating questions. I thought any more than this and the video would be way to long!

So here is my first Q&A video ⇩

In the video I answer everything from where I’m from and how long I’ve been baking, to what software I use to edit my videos, have I had any cake fails, do you need to chill your cakes, why you get air bubbles in your fondant and so many more.

There have been so many questions sent in, so please let me know if you want to see a part 2?

I really hope you enjoy the video and will find some of my answers useful. Also if you’re watching this video when it goes up and you’ll be celebrating over the next few days I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas x x

  1. Hello Lynz, I’ve tried your vanilla cake recipe 3 times and everytime its failed. It rises in the oven and then sinks shortly after.
Im not sure where I am going wrong. Oven is preheated for 30 minutes before putting the cakes into pan, I have the same 6inch pans as you. I don’t open the oven at all until after its baked so I’m not sure what im doing wrong.

Please help me with any advice you have for me?

    Thank you so much!
    Simone

    1. Hi Simone, Sorry to hear that your cakes are sinking. There are a few things that could be causing this. Firstly are you using self raising flour? If you are and it is still happening the cakes may just need a few more minutes in the oven, different ovens can be a little different, so some may need slightly more or slightly less time. Have you checked the center of the cake with a cocktail stick to check it is completely baked in the center. Sometimes if the center is a little under baked this can cause the cakes to sink when they are removed from the oven.
