The rosette swirl is one of my favourite swirls to pipe. It looks so pretty and if you’re new to piping cupcakes it is a great way to create a simple looking buttercream rose. So whether you’re new to piping cupcakes or looking for a new piping technique to add onto your cupcakes I just love how pretty a two-tone rosette swirl looks.

In this weeks video tutorial I’m showing you how to pipe this classic rosette swirl, and how to get this two-tone effect with darker buttercream on the edges. I also show you how to add pretty buttercream leaves to make them look more like roses.

The Rosette Swirl

If you haven’t piped a rosette ‘rose’ swirl before the best piping tip to use is the 2D piping tip. This is one of my favourite piping tips / nozzles. It’s a closed star piping tip which means the points at the top curve over to meet in the middle. Just leaving a small gap to allow your buttercream to flow out as you pipe.

Now if you’ve ever piped a rosette swirl and your buttercream has separated, leaving a gap in your buttercream this is something I go through in the tutorial. How to tease back the points of your piping tip to make sure that buttercream will flow out perfectly.

The Buttercream

This leads me nicely onto the buttercream. The buttercream that I’m using in the tutorial is my American buttercream. You can watch how I make my buttercream below ⇩

I always have so much fun piping buttercream swirls and rosette swirls are always my favourite. I love how you can add these rose cupcakes into a cupcake box on their own and they make the perfect gift. They also look so pretty with other buttercream flower cupcakes, you can even use them to add into cupcake bouquets.

I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and will find it useful if you want to pipe your own two-tone rosette cupcakes. Plus don’t forget you can make them in any colour. You just want one colour to be slightly darker than the other.
