The last few weeks I have definitely had babies on the brain. I have just under 2 months to go until our little boy arrives so I have been busy getting everything ready. When planning this weeks tutorial I thought it would be really fun to show you how to make these cute little baby trainer cake toppers. These really do make the cutest cake toppers and would be perfect for a baby shower or baby birthday cake.
Below you’ll find the full step by step tutorial video, plus a printable template with all the pieces you’ll need to make your own shoes.

Baby Trainers Printable Template
If you want to make your own pair of these baby trainers I have created a printable template for you to download. The template has been sized up so the shoes fit perfectly onto the top of a 6 inch cake. The shoes themselves measure around 4 inches in length and 2 inches in height each.
If you need them slightly larger or smaller you can adjust the size of the template on your printer settings to get them the perfect size for your cake.

Saracino Modelling Paste
You’ll see in the tutorial I’m using the Saracino Pastel Model modelling paste to make the trainers. You could also use fondant if you would prefer. I’m using modelling paste as it’s a little firmer than fondant on it’s own and keeps it’s shape a lot better. Alternatively you could also use gumpaste which will set completely solid or add a little tylos powder into your fondant. Click here to find out the differences between them all to help you choose which one to use.

I really love working with the Saracino modelling paste to create cake toppers as it firms up really well, but stays soft and pliable long enough for you to work on your models.
You’ll need around 65g of modelling paste for each shoe.

These little baby trainers are so much fun to make and can be made in any colour to match your theme. I added a small heart onto the side, but you could also add a star to make them look like Converse trainers or even a little initial.

I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and will be able to use it to make your own little baby trainer cake toppers.
