Step by step bunny rabbit cupcake toppers
Step 1: Prepare your fondant dome for your rabbits head
This can be created either directly on top of your cupcake or by using a foam dome former. The foam dome allow you to prepare your cupcake topper in advance.
First roll out your fondant to a thickness of 3mm and cut out a circle slightly larger than the top of your cupcake. I’m using a 3 inch round cutter. Place the disc of fondant directly over the top of your cupcake and use the side of your hands to shape it onto the dome.

Step 2: Adding in the rabbits features
Using your dresden tool add 2 small oval holes into the front of the face – 1.5cm up from the edge and 3cm apart. Fill these with 2 small black fondant ovals for the eyes. I always like to add a small dot of white fondant into the center as I think this brings the characters to life.
Using an edible pen or some black food gel create a small ‘Y’ shape for the rabbits nose. Finish off with a little edible tint on the rabbits cheeks.

Step 3: Making the fondant rabbit ears
Firstly click here to download the rabbit ear template. Add a small amount of Tylo powder to your fondant to help the ears firm up slightly faster. You only need a very tiny amount.
Roll out the white fondant to a thickness of 5mm, tapering down the top. This will give a wider bottom to your ears, allowing enough fondant to connect them to your rabbits head. Cut out the main part of your ear, along with the inner part of the ear, from peach fondant and glue together.
Using your ball tool hold the ear in the palm of your hand and blend the 2 pieces together, creating a little dip in the center. You can use the ball tool to spread out the center of the ear to make it a little wider. Then slightly fold in the outside edge of the ear and bring the top into a point. At the bottom slightly curve the ear to give it a more natural look. Do this for both ears.

You can then glue the 2 ears to the top of your rabbits head with a little edible glue.
Step 4: Making some mini fondant flowers
To create a mini daffodil, roll out some light yellow fondant and cut out using a mini blossom cutter. Take your small ball tool and pull out the petals, pinching them into a point. With a darker yellow ball of fondant work this onto your dresden tool, opening it out to create the centre of your daffodil. You can then glue this in place.

To create a small generic blossom flower, again using the flower cutter, cut out a tiny blossom shape. Use your dreden tool to push into each petal, to open the flower up.

Make a small cartoon style rose by rolling out your fondant as thin as possible and cut a 5mm wide strip. take one end and start to roll this up, trying to add a little ruffle as you go. Then trim this off at the desired shape.

Add these to the top of your rabbits head along with some leaves. To form the leaves take a small ball of green fondant and taper this into a tier drop shape, flattening it down and running your dresden tool along the center.
Step 5: Attaching your topper to your cupcake
If you’ve created your topper on the foam dome you will want to leave this to firm up for a few hours or ideally overnight. You can then carefully pipe some buttercream inside your topper and push it carefully onto the top of your cupcake.

I really loved creating this tutorial and I really hope you enjoy it too. These cupcakes are so much fun to make and I love how excited they have made me about Easter.
