This weeks cake tutorial is packed with everything you’ll need to know to create this cake yourself.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Owl Cake

Firstly how is Hendrix two already. Writing this I feel like I only just made his first birthday cake. If you missed that cake click here to see the cute lion cake I made him last year.
Do you have your own fan of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star? Every night I sing this nursery rhyme to Hendrix, so I knew this would be the prefect theme for his cake. I felt it needed something more on the top and he absolutely loves owls so it felt perfect to add one amongst the fondant clouds. I’ll pop a picture at the end of Hendrix checking out his birthday cake.
If you didn’t want to add an owl on top what about a cute elephant topper. Take a look at my elephant cake topper tutorial here I think he would look really cute too.

Cake Decorating Techniques You’ll Learn in This Tutorial
This tutorial definitely has something for everyone, whether you want to use some of the elements for your own cake design or maybe you want to recreate this Twinkle Twinkle Little Star cake exactly. Here is everything I show you in a little more detail.

- How to make 3D fondant clouds – These clouds are so cute and super easy to make. Made entirely out of fondant you can make them in any size to fit your cake. They would also look amazing on so many different themed cakes.
- How to make cute little cartoon stars – One of my favourite parts of this cake are these super cute stars. I’ll show you how to add colour to the stars to really make them pop against the blue background and also how to hand draw the sweetest little faces.
- How to make a cute owl cake topper – Made from modelling paste I provide you with the exact weight of each element of the owl. He only has 4 main parts so if you’re new to modelling characters this is a great one for beginners.
- How to prepare and cover your cake in ganache – When covering your cakes in fondant one of the most important things is to get a smooth base. I show you how I prepare my cake using chocolate ganache to make covering your cake in fondant super simple.
- How to cover your cake with an ombre night sky fondant effect – If you’re thinking I’ve used an airbrush this is all fondant! I show you how to take 3 colours and using the panelling method, how to cover your cake in this beautiful gradient ombre night sky effect. If you’ve never heard of the panelling method before check out my dedicated tutorial here!

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed making this cake for Hendrix, seeing his little face light up when he saw the owl, and how happy I am to be able to bring this to you as a video tutorial.
I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and please let me know if you create this cake yourself. I would love to see your version. Plus if you haven’t already don’t forget you can subscribe to my YouTube channel for more FREE cake decorating tutorials.
